Should I have studded or non-studded winter boots?

Whether you should have winter boots with steel studs or un-studded winter boots with a rubber sole depends primarily on how you intend to use the boots. We recommend that you consider the environment you’ll be wearing them in. If you live in a place where there is seldom snow and ice, un-studded is often good enough. However, if you spend a lot of time outdoors when it is slippery, then you should have studded winter boots. All Icebug models with BUGrip in the name have dynamic steel studs, which give you a foothold on ice while they spring into the sole when you go for increased comfort.

If you prefer a rubber sole, you can either choose boots with a Michelin sole or with Biosole, our own rubber compound. Our Michelin soles have the same pattern and rubber compound as Michelin's non-studded winter tires. The Biosole soles are mostly made of natural rubber that stays soft even at low temperatures, which means that they retain grip and comfort even when it is cold outside. Regardless of which one you choose you’ll get a shoe that provides a solid grip in cold conditions.
