Winter boots with the world's best grip

BUGrip® is the name of Icebug's grip technology for the most slippery winter conditions. A BUGrip® sole is made of a special rubber compound and features 13 to 19 integrated carbide steel studs. The studs work individually and are not fixed. When body weight is added to the step, the studs are pressed against the surface of the sole. How far they are pushed in depends on how much pressure is applied and which surface it is applied to. This dynamic function allows the studs to adapt to any surface and provides the best possible grip on everything from dry asphalt to wet wood and pure ice.

Should I choose studded or non-studded winter boots?

Whether you should wear winter boots or shoes with steel studs or with a non-studded rubber sole depends on how you intend to use the shoes. We usually recommend that you think as you do with winter tires for your car. If you live in a place where there is rarely snow and ice, non-studded shoes are often sufficient. But, if you spend a lot of time outdoors when it's icy and slippery, then you should wear studded shoes for the best possible grip.

How do I choose the right size for my winter shoes?

Our best tip is to measure your foot and refer to the size chart on each product page. If you plan to use your winter shoes with an extra thick sock, feel free to add a few extra mm to the length of your foot.

Winter boots that are sustainably produced

Icebug protects the planet and drives development toward a more sustainable shoe industry. When developing our winter shoes, we try to use bio-based or recycled materials as much as possible. For example, we use recycled PET bottles, recycled wool scraps, recycled fishing nets, and algae from eutrophic lakes in our shoes. For the emissions we still cause to the climate, we compensate for our carbon footprint by 200%.
