We developed Larvik Hemp Biosole for two reasons. First and foremost, we wanted to make a shoe that reduced our oil dependency and decreased our climate footprint. In addition to that, we also wanted to produce a shoe with an extra comfortable foot climate. Our eureka moment was when we combined hemp with nubuck leather – and Larvik Hemp Biosole was born!
Hemp is an excellent material in many ways. It is a biomaterial that binds CO2; it grows quickly and only needs 1/3 of the water to grow, compared to cotton. In addition to that, it’s a strong and durable material, which is breathable and has natural anti-bacterial properties.
Larvik is designed for people with an active, sustainable lifestyle. It comes with great comfort and a wide, airy toe box made to handle long hikes in everything from urban environments to forests and mountains. The combination between hemp and nubuck leather makes the shoe water-repellent and gives Larvik excellent thermoregulating properties. It cools your feet when in hot temperatures and warms them in cold weather.
Larvik Hemp Biosole comes with Icebug’s new rubber outsole Biosole, mainly made from natural rubber with about half the climate impact of synthetic rubber. This durable rubber outsole stays soft at all temperatures, resulting in a good grip all year round.
We at Icebug are serious about our climate work. We follow the UN's Climate Neutral Now initiative, measure the entire company's greenhouse gas emissions, and constantly change materials and processes to get a lower climate footprint. Our shoes will have a climate footprint lower than 6.4 kilos of CO2 per pair by 2030. Along the way, we share our materials and suppliers through our initiative for transparency, Follow the Footprints.
